Measured Wild
A compact site shaped by steel, stone, and immersive meadowscape planting
Designed for a painter, this landscape is conceived as a living composition—structured yet expressive, immersive yet restrained. On a compact site, steel planters and low site walls establish a clear architectural framework, creating boundaries that allow the surrounding meadowscape planting to remain loose, layered, and painterly.
Stone, steel, and native planting are deliberately juxtaposed, balancing precision with wildness. Split-face stone boulders, terraced garden rooms, and a steel fire feature introduce moments of weight and intention, while native grasses and perennials soften edges and draw the landscape outward into the hillside beyond.
As the garden unfolds, each space feels nested within the land rather than imposed upon it. Though modest in scale, the site lives expansively—offering an immersive experience that blurs the line between crafted garden and native landscape, and allowing the home to feel fully grounded in its setting.
