Understory & Stone

A grand yet grounded landscape woven into aspen groves and alpine understory.

Nestled high on Beaver Creek, this landscape is shaped within a mature grove of aspens and alpine understory, responding to the scale and presence of classic log architecture. The design balances intimacy and grandeur, allowing the home to feel deeply rooted in its setting while commanding its position in the landscape.

Stone walls, terraces, and cascades are crafted to match the weight and proportion of the architecture, anchoring the home to the hillside and guiding movement through a sequence of garden rooms. Lush perennial beds are layered to echo the native understory, creating continuity between cultivated spaces and the surrounding forest.

The result is a landscape that feels both sheltered and expansive—refined without excess, expressive without overpowering—where stone, water, and planting work together to reinforce a sense of place and enduring presence.
